PSHCE and RSE at St Lawrence Primary School
Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education and Relationships Education (PSHCE and RSE)
At St Lawrence Church of England Primary School, we believe that our pupils should be provided with an education that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. A key part of this relates to Relationships and Health Education, which from September 2020, is a statutory requirement of the Department for Education (DFE); and as such will be delivered to every primary-aged pupil.
The role of Personal Social Health and Relationships Education (PSHCE and RSE) is to ensure that each and every child is given the opportunity to learn how to support their own, and others’, well-being and attainment and become successful and happy adults who make a meaningful contribution to society. Thereby equipping them for their future life as an adult in British society. Our school is committed to serving its community and surrounding areas. We recognise the multicultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom.
At our school we embrace the British Values of:
The rule of law
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
We want our children to learn to understand and respect our common humanity, diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.
We follow the National Curriculum Guidance for Relationship Education and PSHCE and adhere to its aims to support all our children and young people to become:
- Safe, both online and offline
Our Christian tag line at Barton, St Lawrence is
“Learning together, rooted in God.”
This is taken from John 15 Verse 5 – Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain rooted in me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
The aims of PSHCE with RSE education at our school aim to achieve this for all our pupils.
Teachers in our school will get to know your children well and are best placed to understand their needs. They will address the teaching of PSHCE and RSE through links to other Curriculum areas such as, RE, Computing and Science as well as through distinct stand alone PSHCE and RSE lessons, following the Whole School Overview.
Each term the school follows a new school value. These are displayed around school and the weekly newsletter to parents and are followed closely by all. These values are at the very core of our Christian belief and are the 'rules' we live our lives by:
Autumn 1 - Thankfulness
Autumn 2 - Trust
Spring 1 - Perseverance
Spring 2 - Justice
Summer 1 - Service
Summer 2 - Truthfulness
